Making a Difference

We are so grateful to have had our son and daughter nominated to HLW. We had recently moved to a more accessible home for our kids when the air conditioner broke. Around this time our wheelchair accessible vans gear box failed, which was a very expensive repair, and our home was damaged by hail. Both our children require support regulating their body temperature. They wear orthotics periodically through the day and to bed. They are more susceptible to the harmful effects of both overheating and overcooling.

HLW were able to help replace our AC. We are again able to control the temperature within our home, meaning our children maintain a safe body temperature and are able to focus on being kids; happy and health, playing in their own home.

“Our family was blessed with the opportunity to take a truly unforgettable holiday with our beautiful little girl, Eden — an experience made entirely possible by the incredible team at Hastings Little Wishes.

Eden has a rare brain malformation called Lissencephaly. Every day with her is precious, and while she will never walk or talk, she’s soaking in the world around her. Moments like these bring immense joy to her and to all of us as a family.

We were deeply touched when we found out that Eden had been nominated for a wish. Just a week later, Irene from Hastings Little Wishes contacted us to say they would love to make something special happen for Eden. What followed was beyond anything we could have imagined.

After meeting with Irene, we learned that HLW wanted to send us on a family holiday to the Gold Coast to make lasting memories with Eden. They organised absolutely everything — accommodation at Sea World Resort, theme park passes, flights, a hire car, fuel, and even food. The generosity and care we received were simply overwhelming.

We had the most magical time together.

What truly touched our hearts was that Irene even came along to one of Eden’s physiotherapy sessions — a small gesture that showed just how deeply they care about local families walking a tough road.

We are beyond grateful to Hastings Little Wishes and everyone involved. When so much of our lives revolve around hospitals and therapy, this holiday was a breath of fresh air — a chance to just be a family, to laugh, and to create memories we will treasure forever.
